Golcar Aqueduct

Structural repairs. Scheme started in November 1999 and completed in July 2000.

Golcar Aqueduct

This Grade II listed structure which takes the canal over the river Colne west of Milnsbridge, is being repaired to make it waterproof and structurally sound. The work involves strengthening of the arch with concrete infill, construction of a reinforced concrete channel and work to sections of masonry including removal of vegetation, replacement of weathered stone and repointing.

Golcar Aqueduct

Initial work involved making an access across the canal and diverting of the gas main to a temporary route. This photograph shows staging being erected to gain access to inspect the spandrel walls.

Golcar Aqueduct

The complete channel within the aqueduct has been dug out.

With the top of the masonry arch visible, concrete has been placed to provide a supporting saddle.
